Understanding the Basics of Nutrition

At its core, nutrition is the process by which your body takes in and uses food to maintain health, support growth, and function effectively. The food you eat contains nutrients that are essential to various bodily processes. These nutrients are divided into two categories: macronutrients and micronutrients.

- Macronutrients:- include carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. These are the main sources of energy for your body.

- Micronutrients :-include vitamins and minerals, which are necessary for cellular processes, immune function, and overall health.

The Role of Macronutrients

Each macronutrient plays a specific role in your body:-

- Carbohydrates :- The body’s primary source of energy. They can be found in foods like grains, fruits, vegetables, and legumes. Aim for complex carbs such as whole grains, which provide sustained energy and contain more fiber.

- Proteins :- Essential for muscle repair, tissue growth, and enzyme production. Good sources include lean meats, fish, eggs, dairy, legumes, and plant-based options like tofu and quinoa.

- Fats :- Healthy fats support brain function, hormone production, and nutrient absorption. Include healthy fats like avocados, nuts, seeds, olive oil, and fatty fish in your diet, while limiting saturated and transfer fats found in processed and fried food.
